How DUHRING Construction Helped One Loudoun County Homeowner Create a Beautiful Future
In 2017, David purchased a 1988 home on 10 acres—a property with potential, but a past full of piecemeal renovations. As the third owner, David had a vision: to someday create something cohesive and beautiful, a home worthy of its setting.
However, the pandemic and other challenges delayed this vision, and as time passed, the list of needed repairs and upgrades grew. David considered selling the home, but he could not stand the idea of giving up on his cherished rural life and vision.
A family friend recommended DUHRING Construction, and the project began in July 2024—marked by summer fireworks and a bold deadline. David wanted the work completed in time to host Thanksgiving. And since he works from home, he would be living on-site through every step of the renovation.
Respect. Craftsmanship. And Coffee Breaks
From the first walk-through, the Duhring team—led by Project Manager Charlie—understood this wasn’t just a project. It was a personal journey. DUHRING worked with a trusted partner, Clites Architects (Middleburg, VA), which led the kitchen, laundry room and powder room area design, as well as the details for the large kitchen window.
“I can’t say enough nice things about the work they did. Especially my project manager, Charlie,” David says. Not only was the project completed on time and within budget, but the experience itself was a positive one—even with David living and working on-site. “Coffee breaks were nice to engage with the project team,” he adds with a smile.
Today, David enjoys a home that brings him peace, function, and joy. He works from his sunlit office, hosts friends and family with ease, and relaxes into the serenity of the surrounding land.
“I decided to stay because there’s something about driving home to Western Loudoun after a long day,” David says. “It’s like coming home to paradise.”

Kitchen Renovation
To open up views of the property and bring more light into the space, the kitchen layout was reoriented, a new window was installed, and the existing flooring was carefully matched.

“One of the reasons I stayed in the home was because of the views,” David shared.
Powder Room + Pool Access
The original layout didn’t allow for convenient pool access without sacrificing privacy or elegance. John Duhring offered a clever solution: remove the wet bar from the great room to create a pool closet, and add a pocket door to the powder room—maximizing beauty and function from both sides.

“The hallway leading outdoors to the pool is beautiful and functional—no matter which side you look at.”

Historic Window Replica
Upstairs, David wanted to replace a builder-grade closet window with a historically inspired piece—a tribute to George Washington’s “bull’s eye” oval window at Mount Vernon. While the custom glass was a splurge, the handcrafted wood medallion nearly blew the budget. No problem: Charlie stepped in. After some careful trial and error, he crafted the window encasement himself.

“The best part is,” David says, “Charlie came up with the same solution that the Mount Vernon carpenter found 300 years ago. I guess not much has changed in carpentry.”
The DUHRING Difference
At DUHRING Construction, we believe a renovation should feel like a partnership. That’s why we lead with transparency, communication, creativity, and camaraderie—whether we’re managing a custom build or helping a homeowner bring new life to a beloved space.
“They pay attention to the little details,” David says. “Even outlet covers were selected and hand stained to match the wood-paneled great room. That’s why I would absolutely recommend them to anyone considering a remodel or renovation.”
